Erica Eyres

Erica Eyres is a Canadian-born artist based in Glasgow. Eyres’s videos, drawings and sculptures feature a cast of tragi-comic characters through which she reveals the absurdity and extremism of contemporary conceptions of beauty, identity, and sexuality. She received an MFA from the Glasgow School of Art (2002-2004), a BFA Fine Arts (Honours) from the University of Manitoba (1998-2002), and also studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2005).  Recent solo exhibitions include Fette's Gallery, Los Angeles, USA (2007); Kunsthaus Erfurt, Erfurt, Germany (2007); I Love You But I Hate You, Centre for Contemporary Art, Glasgow (2006); Forever and Ever and Ever and Ever and Ever, G+ Galleries, Toronto (2006); and It's For the Best, Dwarf Gallery Reykjavik (2004).  Eyres' work has been presented in numerous group exhibitions, notably 798 Space, Beijing; Akureyri Art Museum, Akureyri, Iceland (2007); Graphology, Triple Base, San Francisco; and Bizarre Love Triangle, Fette's Gallery Los Angeles (2007); The Obsessive and Compulsive Body, Lee Ka-Sing Gallery, Toronto (2006); Supernovas, Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnipeg, Canada (2006); Bloomberg New Contemporaries, which travelled to Cornerhouse in Manchester, Lot in Bristol, and Barbican in London (2005); Toronto International Art Fair, with othergallery, Toronto (2005); From Here to There, Gallery Sowaka, Kyoto (2005); Glasgow Art Fair, with Laplands, Glasgow (2005); and Bloc, White Space Gallery, County Hall, London.
