As part of the 4th Edinburgh Annuale the Embassy Gallery presents an exhibition curated by the Scottish artist Ronnie Heeps
"The richness of the imagery presented in this exhibition is an intoxicating elixir. It is my wish that you the viewer will sip from this heady cup and delight in the treasure house of imagery which is the Alchemist legacy to the twenty-first century."
Adam McLean discovered the wonders of alchemical imagery in his early 20's and has spent the last forty years researching and puzzling over these strange and engaging symbols. During this journey of exploration he has published over fifty books on alchemy, and devised eight study courses. In the 1980's he decided to produce coloured versions of these obscure woodcuts and engraved alchemical emblems in order to make them more accessible to the modern eye. Through his research into this imagery he has uncovered over a thousand emblems and produced hand coloured versions of these, which are the basis for this exhibition.
