Mutatis Mutandis - the Embassy squats in the Mothership for a Month.
Eleanor Antin (USA) Open: 2nd - 31st August, 2008 The Exhibition Mutatis Mutandis is an attempt to usher visitors into halls of intrigue. Mutatis Mutandis has an avid interest in macerating the narrative flesh from the bones of objects and rituals. Performing this delicate operation are an exciting array of artists from the UK and further a field who work amongst the stages of fiction, storytelling, civility and post-mythical popular culture, this exhibition loosens up notions of experience. True, there is sadness here, but maneuvering intently between each artist's voyage within the world, is hysterical optimism. From David Sherry's Smoke Break from Self, to John Kilduff's Let's Paint TV, the promise of a better tomorrow can be found in the most unlikely places. By overlaying these works with performances, incidents, and their ephemera, the hierarchy of surfaces, incidents and dimensions are likely to clash. The performance series is an integral component of the exhibition Mutatis Mutandis, as it develops over four weeks. With the necessary alterations and tweaks having been made, the exhibition will finally rest, only to be taken down.
